Past President Mid-Year 2016

WRAMTA Mid-Year Meeting 2016
June 3-5, 2016
Past-President Executive Board (EB) Report

I am grateful to serve in this capacity and look forward to taking pictures for historical records of our board members throughout the 2016 WRAMTA Mid-Year meeting. In google drive, I have uploaded pictures for historical and marketing purposes, in newly created Conference Picture folders in 2015 National Conference and 2016 Regional Conference folders.  Pictures can be added to social media, WRAMTA Facebook page and www.wramta.org.

The 78-page Policies and Procedures (P&P) document has one page added for the Corporate Commission form with procedure language requiring board approval in the following motion.  The form was approved by the EB for addition to P&P during EB meeting on 11/12/15, with 11/12/15 meeting minutes approved on 3/10/16.

Past President Spring 2016

WRAMTA Regional Conference 2016

Past-President Executive Board (EB) Report

I am grateful to serve in this capacity and look forward to taking pictures for historical records of our Western Region participation throughout the 2016 WRAMTA Conference.

The 78-page Policies and Procedures (P&P) document has been updated and reformatted with pages numbered and referenced in the Table of Contents for easier access.  It includes all policies and procedures approved by the EB through Mid-Year Meeting 2015. I will add new policies and procedures that were approved in the November National Conference minutes once they are approved at this conference.

EB  members are asked to review their Job Descriptions over the next two months and submit revisions for approval during the Mid-Year Meeting 2016. I will go through the same systematic process to submit 2016 Job Descriptions for EB approval at the November National Conference 2016.  I updated  a new draft of the President’s Job Description to support Tim Ringgold’s Presidency as there are many action items not referenced in the current approved JD.  We will fine tune the draft document and present it for board approval at the EB Mid-Year meeting.

Past President Midyear 2015

I am grateful to be serving in this capacity, have reviewed my new job description, and request EB members assistance with my one job duty at Mid-year Meeting: please take pictures for historical records with my physical presence being remote.

I have supported the President through various email inquiries since March 2015, including his submission of the required report to the AMTA Board of Directors. I received a flash drive from Past-President Maureen Hearns containing her oversight of WRAMTA historical records.

I look forward to continue serving my colleagues, on the WRAMTA EB and general membership, as an advisor offering past perceptions that may help clarify current decision-making, and making sure historical records are updated and secured.

Past President Spring 2015

Dear Members,

Thank you all for an outstanding conference!  The part of conference that I find most meaningful is observing the exchange of support and mutual respect for one another.  I have always felt that relationships are the most important aspect of the work we do:  relationships between therapist and client, relationships amongst colleagues, and relationships with the music.  It is my hope that as we move forward as an organization that these ideals will continue to permeate our existence.

Thank you for the support you have given and shown to me throughout my tenure on the Executive Board.  I am sincerely thankful.

In conclusion, I leave with you this thought:

Past President Report Fall 2015

Dear WRAMTA Officers, Representatives and Members,

Writing and submitting a tri-annual report as Past President is an interesting phenomenon. Our Bylaws state that the past president “shall act as a consultant to the Executive Board,” Chair the Historical Committee, and sit on the Executive Committee. In addition, the past president has “historically” maintained the Policy and Procedures Manual and our Job Descriptions document. There have been several revisions, edits, additions, and fine tuning of these documents over the past year-and-a-half. As I reflect on this, I am reminded of the dedication and commitment of your current Board to serve each of you individually and collectively. As former President of the Western Region, my mantra was “Honor each other. Honor our members. Honor our self.” By the time one has arrived at the position of Past President, they have kept the Western Region at the forefront of their thoughts for at least a minimum of four years. The personal investment that a past president has made is significant. In a “consultant’s role,” and open to the acceptance of requests by the current sitting president, the past president continues to maintain a watchful eye. With great respect, I support and honor our current president, Judith Pinkerton, and the members of her Board as presently constituted. It is a privilege to work with them. It is exciting to witness their enthusiasm, quest for new ideas, willingness to take risks, all the while maintaining the status of their office. Wisdom is earned. Life is a magnificent teacher – experience is a blessing of opportunity. The professional, associate, and student members of our region are exceptionally beautiful people, as are the treasured clients we serve. To have a stewardship with them is indeed a privilege.

We are in gentle hands, and the Western Region Chapter of the American Music Therapy Association is vibrant and evolving. Personally, I look forward to seeing you at our national conference in Louisville, Kentucky, Nov. 6 – 9, 2014, and this coming spring in San Jose, CA, during our regional conference, March 12 – 15, 2015. You, our members, are the reason the Western Region is what it is. I thank you! And thank you for reading this report… but more importantly I thank you for your commitment to the profession of music therapy.

Respectfully submitted,

Past President 2013 WRAMTA Conference Spring Report

PiperAccording to the bylaws “The Past President shall act as a consultant to the Executive Board, attend Executive Board meetings, and shall serve as Chapter archivist and Chair of the Historical Committee. Sits on the Executive Committee.”

I am saddened that this will be my last meeting as a WRAMTA Executive Board member. I can still remember my very first board meeting. I was sitting at a table in awe of what I witnessed happening at a midyear board meeting. I didn’t know it was possible to sit for that many hours consecutively! Having attended a myriad of meetings over the last 10 years, I am still humbled by the amount of work which goes into the running of this organization. Working alongside some of the most unique and wonderful individuals has been a fantastic experience. I have learned lasting lessons from every board member and have treasured my time in service to the organization. I will continue to serve WRAMA and AMTA as the Regional President Representative the AMTA Board of Directors’ and as one of your AMTA Assembly Delegates. With the Board’s permission, I would like to continue in my involvement with the Wilson Trust.

As the WRAMTA archivist, I have been looking into the preservation of electronic media for long term storage. I will also be stepping up my picture taking at the WRAMTA conference, beware! I will be passing along the WRAMTA Historical thumb drive to Maureen for her term as past president.
Many wonderful wishes to the 2013‐15 WRAMTA Executive Board!

Past President, Spring 2012

According to the bylaws “The Past President shall act as a consultant to the Executive Board, attend Executive Board meetings, and shall serve as Chapter archivist and Chair of the Historical Committee. Sits on the Executive Committee.”

I continually review the “Policy and Procedure Manual” and “Job Descriptions” to provide support to the Executive Board and make recommendations for updates. Those two documents underwent major revisions which were approved at the November meeting during the AMTA Conference in
Atlanta.

I continue in my work on the Wilson Trust project. As part of The Wilson Trust Music Therapy Project (WTMTP), last fall a “Program Announcement: Pay-It-Forward Microloans” was put out to music therapists in the Puget Sound area. Those applications were reviewed and award announcements went out in December.
